The Jewellery Week team has revealed the winners of the 2014 Greenwich Gem of a Pop-Up Shop competition as W.T.Author Watches, Rie Tanabe for Flowerie88, Becky Dockree Jewellery, Barbora Rybarova and Ana Thompson Lab.
The five winners will co-run the shop for a month, with doors opening at the Turnpin Lane boutique this Saturday, June 7. They include Professional Jeweller Hot 100 2013 NexGem Becky Dockree and recent Professional Jeweller Bench Fresh star Ana Thompson.
The competition, sponsored by estate owner Greenwich Hospital and Jewellery Week 2014, will give the winners the chance to experience retailing first-hand in a free-of-charge shop.
The winners were selected by judging panel including Greenwich-based designer Johnny Rocket, Greenwich jewellery designer-maker Charlotte Rudkin, Jewellery Week director Della Tinsley, and Gillie Bexson, head of property at Greenwich Hospital.
Della Tinsley said: “We are delighted that such a strong group of jewellers are coming together in 2014, they are all very different from each other and will create a very desirable store to buy and commission exciting jewellery and watch design.”
The Greenwich Pop- Up shop is at 8 Turnpin Lane Greenwich and will be open from June 7 to 30.
Johnny Rocket, who has been a Jewellery Week ambassador for a number of years, said: “As in the previous years, the standard of entrants was startlingly high and the final five make a really exciting offer. It is especially great to see a watch brand amongst the winners – Greenwich being the home of time.”
The Gem of a Pop-Up Shop is just one of a number of Greenwich-based events that will take place during this year’s Jewellery Week, which will run this month.
Also taking place is the Carats & Frocks Catwalk and a late-night market in aid of Breast Cancer Care at Greenwich Market in conjunction with Jewellery Week 2014, which takes place on June 11 from 7pm.
Greenwich Jewellery Quarter Market will host a dedicated Jewellery Week edition on June 14, from 10am to 5.30pm.
Children can also design a piece of jewellery and have it made for them at Greenwich’s Beadoir, throughout the month of June. The bead and jewellery shop is inviting the under-12s to be part of Jewellery Week 2014 by designing and drawing an item of jewellery. A winning design will be made for the winner to keep, with runner up prizes includes jewellery making kits.
