Comedian makes surprise visit to Festive Wishes at Chatsworth House.
Comedian Joan Rivers mad a surprise appearance at CW Sellors’ Christmas Wishes fine jewellery and watch showcase at Chatsworth House last weekend.
The American star had been attending a the UK premier of her documentary A Piece of Work at the Sheffield Doc/Fest film festival and popped in past the CW Sellors event with a group of friends.
Rivers and friends were given a tour of the jewellery and watch collections on show before trying their luck in the event’s Find A Diamond game. The fundraising initiative challenged visitors to pick out a real diamond from a sea of CZ rings, raising £547 for the Air Ambulance and £1,235 for the NSPCC.
CW Sellors said that Rivers told staff she thought the event was “fabulous”.
Another VIP to attend the event was the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire Deborah Cavendish, who has been a long-time patron of CW Sellors. To thank her for her three decades of support and to celebrate her 90th birthday the company presented her with a handcrafted 18ct yellow gold bumble bee with wings of Derbyshire Blue John and body of golden Amber and Whitby Jet that was crafted at the CW Sellors workshop in Ashbourne.
CW Sellors’ Chris Sellors said: “It was wonderful to have the Dowager view our Christmas Wishes showcase and her keeping a close eye and interest in our business progress since her Grace opened our Ashbourne Jewellery workshop back in 1987. It is fantastic to be at Chatsworth showcasing our wonderful collections, seeing our customers enjoying choosing their gems and at the same time having fun raising money for charity.”
The Festive Wishes event showcased designs from brands such as Mikimoto, Picchiotti, Krieger, Breitling, Fope and Chimento, alongside CW Sellors’ own creations made in the company’s Derbyshire workshops.
