Owner of Just Gems, Helen Plumb, has invested in cutting-edge technology to launch the UK’s first bespoke expanding range of jewellery for arthritis and joint inflammation sufferers.
Plumb is a renowned geologist, gemmologist and Gem-A examiner, who creates bespoke handmade jewellery with a wide range of finished fine pieces available to buy on Just Gem’s website.
Using innovative technology, Plumb has now created a range of expanding jewellery, which will also be available on Just Gems.
The expanding collection will allows customers with larger joints to wear full set eternity rings in comfort, and will be especially beneficial for those suffering from rheumatoid arthritis.
The technology, developed in Italy and sold through a tiny handful of independent jewellers, consists of individual, connected and flexible links, clamped to coiled titanium springs. The springs were originally developed for the aerospace industry and are exceptionally resilient, therefore hard wearing and great for consumers looking for day wear and therefore longevity.
Plumb explains: “With age, most people experience a swelling of finger joints and an expansion of the fingers. For many women, it is common to be subject to monthly fluctuations in finger width, a condition which often worsens with age and at menopause. Full set eternity rings are very popular in the UK and amongst my clients, but are notoriously difficult to resize. I am therefore thrilled to have access to this innovative technology and offer my clients more options to cater for their differing personal needs.”
In the UK, rheumatoid arthritis affects around 400,000 people and frequently develops in adults in their late 40s or older. Research carried out by Arthritis UK shows that women are three times more likely than men to be affected by rheumatoid arthritis.
The expanding collection of jewellery is designed to give consumers many years of trouble free wear. The eternity band is set with 2.33ct of F colour VS clarity diamonds and pricing starts from £6,450. Expanding bangles are also available, with pricing from £14,400.
