Kiroco impresses at GCDC Awards with smart locket

Yorkshire-based business Kiroco is celebrating winning a coveted Silver Award at the Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council Awards in the Technological Innovation category.

Managing director Nigel Townsend impressed the judges with his digital locket design, including smartphone connectivity to store personal private information and messages.

The technology uses multi-factor authentication, equivalent to online banking security, to ensure that information on a piece of jewellery can only be seen by a specified smartphone.

On receiving the Award, Townsend said: “Being judged by such experienced and respected practitioners within our profession and winning an award is the highest accolade we could achieve for our innovative digital jewellery in our first year of business.”

Townsend, who also runs Townsend Fine Jewellers in Yorkshire, has brought together a diverse team with skills in cutting edge technology, international business, manufacturing, design, marketing and distribution, to bring brand new innovative products which will transform the jewellery market.
