A masked robber has fled a branch of The Gold Shop after bursting into the retail premises with a knife which he used to threaten staff.

The Gold Shop in Queensferry, Wales, was the target of the attack, in which a woman was threatened with a blade.

The raider stole several items before fleeing the shop around 9.30am yesterday, after which police launched a helicopter to hunt for him.

Detectives from Mold CID spent hours combing the scene for forensic evidence, interviewing witnesses and trawling through CCTV footage. No-one was hurt in the incident but staff were left shaken.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said: “Police were alerted to an incident at The Gold Shop in Station Road, Queensferry, at 9.52am.

“The male offender has made off with a number of items. No-one was hurt during the incident and police are at the scene.
“Enquiries are ongoing and no more information is available at present.”

Business owners on Station Road, the location of The Gold Shop, said they were shocked, and several said that the area was normally trouble free.

Sarah King, from the nearby Oasis Hair Company, said: “We’ve never had any trouble in here and we’ve been here 10 years. I’m surprised someone would rob the place in broad daylight.

“The police helicopter has been out and we’ve heard police have been stopping and searching people around Shotton, so they must have run away on foot.”

The police helicopter hovered over Deeside for hours in a bid to catch the offender, who fled the scene immediately after the robbery with “a number of items”.

Investigating officer Jason Davenport said the robber had “produced a bladed object” but the exact weapon had not yet been established.

Queensferry councillor David Wisinger said he was astounded by the incident. He added: “I’m shocked that something like this has happened in Queensferry.”
