Edinburgh jeweller to host collection of British jewellery designers.

Laings the Jeweller is set to host the first Scottish stop of the Designs of Excellence tour, which focuses on new and established design talent from the UK and Ireland.

The tour has begun this week at Baker Brothers in Bedford, who will host the collection for the first week. Laings will be the first Scottish jeweller to unveil the Designs of Excellence Collection in Edinburgh on May 24, as part of a UK and Ireland-wide tour to showcase the latest jewellery trends from British designers.

Laings will be the first store in Scotland to host the collection, from Tuesday 24 May to Monday 30 May. The collection comprises jewellery of a variety of styles, metals and gems, chosen from the designers who entered the Designer of Excellence Award at The Jewellery Show 2011.

The collection is now on tour across the UK, and features the work of jewellery designers including Ana de Costa, Babette Wasserman and Sarah Ho. The latter was crowned the Designer of Excellence at the Jewellery Show in February for her SHO Fine Jewellery collection.

Other designers who will be touring in the collection include Alexander Davis, whose unique DNA pendant has been designed to reflect the elegance of the DNA helix. To make it the pendant, cutting-edge laboratory DNA sequencing techniques were used to identify a unique stretch of the wearer’s DNA, making it totally exclusive to them. In an additional twist, two lovers’ DNA sequences can be permanently entwined together in a truly unique piece of jewellery.

Expert gemmologist and jewellery design specialist, Michael Laing OBE, managing director of Laing the Jeweller, commented: "The Designs of Excellence Collection features creations that are worn on the necks, wrists and hands of a number of celebrities all over the world so it is very exciting that we are able to host the collection at our Frederick Street store. We would encourage people to come along and visit the exhibition as it’s an amazing chance to see some of the world’s most interesting jewellery designs."
