Scottish retailer to use acquisition to expand Argyll Arcade store.

Scottish jeweller Laings of Glasgow is set to expand its store after buying the business next door to it in the city’s famous Argyll Arcade.

Laings of Glasgow has bought jeweller Russell & Bingley, which is situated at 50 Argyll Arcade. Laings is currently running the shop under the Russell & Bingley name, and offering shoppers 20 percent discount on all stock “to celebrate it being under new management”.

However, Laings of Glasgow managing director Stuart Laing told Professional Jeweller that he intends to use the space to expand his core shop, which at present occupies 46-49 Argyll Arcade, and use the extended floor space and corner position to create a “Laings corner”. The retailer has already had a digital image mocked up, pictured above, as to how the shop will look once the project is completed, which it estimates to be finalised within six months.

Laing said that he is excited about the project, which he feels is a huge step forward for the business. He added: “We are creating a large luxury jewellery store in recessionary times.”

Russell & Bingley had been operating as a family-run business in Glasgow’s Argyll Arcade and boasted more than 50 years in the trade. The business specialises in diamond jewellery with a large selection of diamond-set jewels, wedding jewellery and a selection of Hot Diamonds jewellery.
