New stockists call designer to place orders with only a week to go.

Jewellery designer and Professional Jeweller NexGem Laura Gravestock is enjoying a pre-Christmas boost, with a rush of festive online sales and last-minute orders from stockists across the UK.

Gravestock told Professional Jeweller that she has been run off her feet over the past 10 days as demand for her jewellery collections reaches a festive peak.

“I had a chap drop into my studio at Cockpit Arts at 8.30am this morning to pick something up, while others have been calling telling me that their girlfriend’s friends have recommended me or have told them that my jewellery is what their girlfriend wants,” said Gravestock.

So far the bestselling design for Christmas has been the Love ring, which spells out the word love around the finger, from Gravestock’s Written collection.

She has also been inundated with calls – a number of which came last weekend – from both current and new stockists looking to get their hands on her jewellery collections before Christmas Day.

“I had a number of new enquiries over the weekend and have simultaneously been working on my Valentine’s Day collections, which I’m also in the process of sending out.”

Gravestock has had assistance from two interns who have helped her with finishing items, cleaning casts and visits to the post office to get gifts out on time. She has also experienced a rise in website sales, having only just launched her transactional site this time last year.

Looking ahead Gravestock says hers Valentine’s collection will include an extension of her Written range with the new XOXO ring, designed to represent the phrase hugs and kisses, as made famous by TV shows such as Gossip Girl.

She will also take time out early in 2012 to design a new collection that she hopes to unveil at IJL next year.

At present Gravestock’s jewellery is sold through retailers including Alexis Dove, Baroque, Felt and Nude Jewellery. Her work is also part of a pop-up showcase hosted at bespoke jewellers W&W during the Christmas period.
