Lewes jeweller hit by smash and grab in broad daylight

Lewes High Street retailer, David Smith Jewellery, was hit by a smash and grab at 1.45pm yesterday.

A masked man armed with a hammer carried out the raid, taking items with a total estimated value of £20,000. Stolen pieces included rings, necklaces and bracelets.

The man used the hammer to smash two cabinets in the premises, and a black rucksack to carry the stolen goods.

The suspect has been described as a man, about 6’3″, of skinny build. He was wearing a red and white mask, a black hoody over his head and black jeans.

Fortunately no one was harmed during the raid.
