Pearl jewellery specialist to run purely online business.

Pearl jewellery retailer Lilyo is set to close its shop in Bury St Edmunds but will continue to operate its online arm.

The move to a purely etail model is a return to the business’s roots. Lilyo started as an online business in 2004 with the store opening later in 2006.

Lilyo owner Lily Daly said that the decision to close the shop was motivated by the birth of her son last year, plus a growth in online sales.

The closure of the shop, which Daly said has continued to trade well, will create two redundancies. The store will begin running a sale today with discounts of up to 50%.

Daly told local newspaper Bury Free Press: "I had a baby boy last year so I want to spend more time with him.

"The online trading is growing beyond my expectations and so I have decided to concentrate on that side of the business. The shop has been very profitable – it is thriving – but looking to the future I think the website is probably the way forward."
