24-year-old actress pleads not guilty to charge of theft
American actress Lindsay Lohan has been charged with stealing a £1,500 necklace from a Venice Beach boutique.
The charge of theft, which relates to the missing necklace Lohan was spotted wearing several weeks ago, comes while the actress is on probation for driving under the influence.
Lohan has entered a plea of not guilty insisting that the jewellery store – Kamofie & Company – gave her the necklace to win them publicity. When the store saw no return of interest, Lohan claims they backtracked, saying she had stolen the necklace. If found guilty, Lohan could face a jail term of up to three years.
Defending her daughter, Lohan’s mother Dina said: "Lindsay is not guilty of anything. No one knew the name of this little jewellery store before. My daughter is not going to walk out of a jewellery store with a necklace. She has more jewellery than that store. It’s ridiculous."
Kamofie & Company, a store owned by jewellery designer Sofia Kaman, sells 14ct gold jewellery set with rough cut and champagne coloured diamonds. Her necklace designs include coin-style pendants, chunky link chains and charm pendants featuring skulls, hearts, birds and flowers.
