Mappin & Webb celebrates two new royal warrants

Mappin & Webb has been appointed two new royal warrants as jewellers and goldsmiths to Her Majesty The Queen.

Since 1897, Mappin & Webb has held a royal warrant as silversmiths to Her Majesty The Queen. Now, on the company’s 240th anniversary, it has been appointed as jewellers and goldsmiths too.

Royal warrants are a highly prized mark of recognition of individuals or companies who have supplied goods or services to the household of the British Royal Family. They demonstrate service, quality and excellence of the highest calibre.

Mappin & Webb has an undisputed heritage of excellence in the craft of silverware and fine jewellery, which has been at the heart of affluent English society for centuries and the company is also proud to hold a royal warrant to His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.

The company produces fine jewellery, watches, silverware and lifestyle accessories.

It’s a story that began in 1775, when Jonathan Mappin opened a silver workshop in Sheffield with the mission to create the most beautifully crafted silverware.

Today, the company also continues its tradition of supplying the British military with commemorative pieces and regimental needs in a long-standing tradition of service to the Monarchy.

This new appointment also compliments the role of Mappin & Webb’s master craftsman as the crown jeweller since 2012. As custodian of the Crown jewels: this is also a great honour for Mappin & Webb.

Chief executive officer, Brian Duffy, says: “We are privileged to confirm that Mappin & Webb has been appointed jewellers, goldsmiths and silversmiths to Her Majesty The Queen. Previously our warrant was as silversmiths to Her Majesty The Queen.

“This is a fantastic accomplishment for our team, and a significant achievement for the company as we celebrate another milestone this year – our 240th Anniversary.”

Duffy continues: “The company has held royal warrants since 1897 as silversmiths to Her Majesty The Queen and was appointed as royal warrant holder as silversmiths to His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales in 1980 and this new appointment further enhances our position in the luxury market and compliments our master craftsman’s role as crown jeweller. We are honoured to be part of a company that serves the British Royal Family and household. ”

Royal warrant holder Karl Bailey says: “It is a privilege to be the Grantee of Mappin & Webb’s royal warrants. It is a true honour to receive the additional appointments of jewellers and goldsmiths to Her Majesty The Queen and for this to happen in our 240th Anniversary year makes this a very special occasion.”
