Patek Philippe UK managing director and director of the British School of Watchmaking Mark Hearn told press members gathered at the opening day of the London Watch Show (LWS) this morning that the growth of the UK watch industry means that now is the ideal time for the launch of LWS.

LWS is the UK’s first dedicated watch trade show, organised and implemented by Professional Jeweller and WatchPro magazines publisher ITP Promedia.

Hearn addressed the congregating trade, specialist and national press at a breakfast at LWS this morning before the official opening of the show at the Freemasons Hall in London. He highlighted the relevance and importance of a trade-only UK event for watch brands.

Hearn said: "I’d like to say a thank you to WatchPro magazine because for many years the UK market has lacked a venue and event to give a variety of brands the opportunity to show what they have had to offer. Thank you WatchPro for having the foresight of doing this. From the beginning it has had my support in terms of both my Patek Philippe role and the British School of Watchmaking."

Hearn went on to highlight the positive developments that have been happening within British watchmaking over the past few years, particularly in light of the growth of the British School of Watchmaking, which is planning to up its intake of watchmaking students.
