Designer provides a large selection of pieces for World Aids Day
Luxury jewellery designer Mawi will be teaming up with Mary Portas in Mary’s Living & Giving Shop to support Save the Children in an exclusive meet the designer shopping evening on December 1.
Mawi, whose designs have been seen on celebrities such as Beyoncé Knowles and Rihanna, has donated a large selection of her most treasured pieces in order to raise money for the life-saving HIV programmes run by Save the Children.
The ‘Christmas Night In with Mawi and her Jewels’ will take place on 1 December 2010 at the Mary’s
Living and Giving Shop supporting Save the Children on Westbourne Grove (5pm – 8pm); to coincide
with World Aids Day.
Mawi says “I have always wanted to work with Mary Portas and Save the Children, and I am delighted to
have the opportunity to contribute to the upcoming event particularly since it also coincides with World
HIV/AIDs Day. Not only is it a fantastic cause, but Mary has also done a great job in raising the profile of the
work that Save the Children do. It is a really important charity that impacts on so many lives, and we’re hoping
to raise lots of money on the night! I will be donating some amazing pieces including lots and lots of Mawi
jewellery and several treasures from my own designer and vintage collection. I have also garnered the support
of several designer friends who will be donating surprise pieces from their own labels too, to create unique
goodie bags for the lucky first fifty guests.”
Amongst these exciting treasures that will be on sale, Mawi has also included her well-sought after
and rare collection of limited edition archive pieces from the vintage Mawi vaults, as well as a
selection of designer and vintage items from her personal wardrobe. Items from the Mawi closet
include Indian shawls, beaded dresses, feather head pieces, colourful embroidered scarves, Victorian
lace swatches, designer shoes, vintage bags and purses, vintage textiles, and stunning jewel
components which can be used to customise and add embellishment to your own wardrobes.
Mawi will be on hand to guide customers through the collection, offer style advice on the key
accessories to wear for the party season, and to help pick a unique Christmas gift.
Mary Portas added, “I am thrilled that what started with a vision and a TV show has taken on such a life of its own. Living & Giving is a philosophy that makes a real difference. Shopping here is not only good for you, it’s good for our world and the part we all play in it.”
