Jewellery retailer Mococo has been named the 2013 Business of the Year at the Network She Awards, which  celebrates the achivements of businesses with a 50%-plus female workforce.

The awards, which took place on International Women’s Day, were open to any business from across the country that had a 50%-plus female workforce. It is the second women in business award that Mococo has won in six months.

Those companies that entered had to demonstrate all round achievement, continual profitable growth and evidence of a positive approach to work/life balance.

Mococo, run by Maureen and Lee Hooson, operates five stores in the North West and North Wales. The company has recently launched a new website, with the Hoosons named Retail Stars in the 2012 Professional Jeweller Hot 100.

The retailer sells brands including Pandora, Thomas Sabo, Monica Vinader and Swarovski and recently took on Fossil watches.

Maureen Hooson said of the win: “We are totally overwhelmed by this win. It is such a thrill to see a business vision come to fruition, bigger and better than I ever could have imagined.

“Having gained over 20 years experience at Boodles, I saw a gap in the market to bring luxury shopping to a high street jewellery store. I wanted to ensure that every one of our customers, whether they were spending £5 or £500, received unmatched service and attention to detail, whilst selecting from some of the finest brands around.”

Since their launch in 2008 the Network She Awards have become recognised as the platform to celebrate the success of women who mean business.

The awards were held to reward the achievements of business women and women in business, who have succeeded and continue to succeed in their chosen field during difficult trading times.

Hooson added: “Women obviously play a huge role in our business from the workforce to our dedicated female customers, but we wouldn’t be where we are today without some help from the boys too. In particular my husband Lee and son Oliver, both of whom play a massive role in the company and its growth.”

Mococo has previously announced its "massive expansion plans" due to take place in the coming five years, including major renovations at its Mold store, which is set to double in size.
