New Designers opens doors to fresh jewel talent

Jewellery and metalwork grads from around the UK showcase collections.

The New Designers show opens at London’s Business Design Centre today, showcasing work from jewellery and metalwork design graduates from across the UK’s leading universities and colleges.

The show will open at 3pm today, marking the 28th edition of New Designers. More than 3,000 graduates are set to show their work, including jewellery and metalwork graduates from 11 universities and colleges from across the UK.

Schools that have bought their graduates to the London show include work include the School of Jewellery at Birmingham City University, Duncan of Jordanstone, Glasgow School of Art, Middlesex University, Sheffield Hallam and Sir John Cass.

As well as showcasing new design talent to watch, the show is also regarded as an event at which to gauge emerging jewellery trends and design themes, and a place for retailers and businesses to meet and recruit rising stars of the UK jewellery industry.

A number of jewellers will also feature in this year’s One Year On room, showcasing their work a year after they first appeared as graduates in 2012.

This year’s One Year On line up includes jewellers Annabelle Lucilla Jewellery, an IJL 2013 KickStarter, Arturo Borrego, Carrie Dickens Tactile Jewellery, Ciara Bowles Contemporary Jewellery, Cristina Zani, Cai-Xuan Wu, Grace Hamilton Contemporary Jewellery, Heather McDermott Jewellery, Heather Woof Jewellery, Sophie Alice Hirsch Jewellery, Suzanne Rogers, Nilplug and Isabelle Busnel.

The show opens at 3pm today, and then from 10am to 8pm Thursday and Friday, and 10am to 6pm on Saturday at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London.
