Nu Pop Movement watches targets UK youth market

Music, pop art and watch making come together for funky fashion brand.

The Nu Pop Movement watch brand will make its first appearance in a UK retailer next week when Selfridges puts the range on sale.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed that the brand, which launched in Los Angeles late last year, will be available from March 8th at the central London department store.

Nu Pop Movement watches are the product of a collaboration between jeweller to the stars, Pascal Mouawad, and US music mogul Jermaine Dupri. The unlikely pair came together to fuse pop, modern art and watch making into a range characterised by bold, vivid colours and funky design.

The watches retail in the US at prices ranging from $14-$250, and are being sold online and via a growing network of independent stockists.

Nu Pop Movement’s spokesperson would not state how many stockists were being sought in the UK, but suggested that this is a mass-market brand that would not look out of place on every high street in the country.

A PR push is being planned that will see several British celebrities photographed with the watches. A similar campaign in America saw Janet Jackson and Lindsay Lohan among dozens of stars pictured wearing the brand.

London DJ and rapper Ironik was photographed with the watches last week for a promotion campaign that will accompany the Selfridges launch.
