Oldham retailer targeted in jewellery raid

Hooded gunman threatened staff before fleeing with jewellery.

A robber targeted an Oldham jewellery store on Friday, threatening staff with a gun before fleeing the shop with handfuls of jewellery.

The robber is said to have burst into the store in Manchester Streetm Oldham, at around 10:30am on Friday.

He used a gun to threaten staff, jumping over the counter. As a member of staff ran to press the company’s panic alarm he pointed the gun at the worker’s face before stealing a number of jewellery items.

The robber was described as about 5ft 7in (1.7m) and of medium build. He wore dark clothing, a hood and scarf.

Det Insp Dave Massey, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This man walked into the shop armed with a weapon, showing this was a premeditated attempt to rob the shop and frighten staff.

"I would urge anyone who was walking along Manchester Street at the time of the robbery and who may have seen something to contact as soon as possible."
