The global authority on colour, Pantone, has announced Pantone 15-0343 Greenery, as its Colour of the Year for 2017
Greenary is now set to be the dominant shade in fashion and design for the next 12 months, with many jewellery designers already incorporating this shade into their work.
In a nod towards the turbulent global political climate, next year’s Colour of the Year is a refreshing and revitalizing shade, which is symbolic of new beginnings.
Executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, explains: “Greenary bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment.
“Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenary symbolises the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”
Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Greenery is nature’s neutral and according to Pantone’s report, it calls on consumers to “take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.”
The report states: “The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world. This shift is reflected by the proliferation of all things expressive of Greenery in daily lives through urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and design choices globally. A constant on the periphery, Greenery is now being pulled to the forefront – it is an omnipresent hue around the world.”
Greenery is also representative of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.
The Colour of the Year 2017 is a versatile “trans-seasonal” shade that lends itself to many colour combinations. Greenery is often paired with neutrals, brights, deeper shades, pastels, metallics and even the enduring presence of Pantone Colours of the Year 2016, Rose Quartz and Serenity.
