PROFESSIONAL JEWELLER HOT 100: 2010 NEXGEMS
Katie Rowland, designer, Katie Rowland Jewellery Although Katie Rowland initially trained in art and graphics, graduating from Kingston University in 2003, her underlying passion for jewellery became apparent when she exhibited jewellery for her final-year show. She continued to pursue and self-fund her jewellery career, whilst working as a graphic designer and studying jewellery at Central Saint Martins. Katie formed Katie Rowland Jewellery in 2009, which has since become an award-winning brand for both design and business. This year, lingerie powerhouse Agent Provocateur approached Katie to design exclusively for their new jewellery line. She also collaborated with up-and-coming design talent Gemma Slack in Rowland vs. Slack AW10. The collection is a unique take on jewellery as bodywear, inspired by tales of damned love. The collection is an exploration into escapism, romance and pleasure that evolved into a series of golden structures with delicately binding chains in a collection that blurs the line between jewellery and clothing, explains Katie. For the second year running, Katie Rowland Jewellery was awarded the Lonmin Design Innovation Award for Platinum in 2010 with both designs she submitted this year given the prestigious award. As well as awards from within the industry, her work is getting the nod from celebrities around the world including the likes of Cheryl Cole, Coco Sumner, Danny Minogue, Daisy Lowe, Noel Fielding of the Mighty Boosh, and many more. The coming 12 months will see Katie launch her new collection, Lilith, at London and Paris Fashion Weeks. The Lilith collection promises to be poised elegance with a seductive edge; an embodiment of female divinity and unabated lust'.
