EDITORS CHOICE... PANERAI LUMINOR SUBMERSIBLE 1950 3-DAYS AUTOMATIC BRONZO: Just when you think Panerai is happy to rest on its much-lauded design laurels creating slightly updated versions of its instantly recognisable Luminor case, it throws everything up in the air again. Of course, the Bronzos form will be familiar to fans of the brand, for it uses the classic Luminor shape with heavy rotating bezel. What will make the legions of hard-core collectors sit up and take notice are the colours: the warm, brushed bronze of the 47mm case is accented by a dial not in black, but in dark forest green. Fitted with an in-house movement, the watch plainly alludes to the brands maritime roots ? Panerai having been the watch of choice of the Italian Navy ? and has a distinct historical 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea feel. Using the Italian word for the alloy as the name of the watch itself is another smart move on Panerais part. The somewhat cartoonish-name and slightly odd appearance give this ice-cool timepiece instant I-want status. Especially as only 1,000 are to be made.
