Gemma Clive of Pressleys, Chichester, walked away with highest award.
Over 50 guests arrived at the London Watch Show on Monday July 7 to hear the results of Professional Jeweller’s inaugural Shop Floor Stars initiative, supported by International Jewellery London, during a champagne awards ceremony.
The 14 finalists, five special award winners and one overall winner were each called to the stage to accept their trophies, with companies such as Alexis Dove, Flawless, Steffans, Laings of Glasgow, Wongs Jewellers and R.L. Austen represented.
Pressleys sales director Gemma Clive was crowned Shop Floor Star 2014 based on the staggering number of nominations she received from her colleagues and the wider industry.
Pressleys marketing manager Maddy David, who nominated Clive when Shop Floor Stars was initially launched in May 2014, said: “Gemma’s achievement in sales is not only measured by her outstanding sales figures but more importantly by her customers, who regularly send us testimonials of her service. Her knowledge and passion for the jewellery industry is second to none."
When asked what her advice would be for other sales advisors in jewellery retail, Clive explained: “Serve every customer as though they are your only customer as they deserve nothing less than this. Have fun at work and laugh with your colleagues, it’s infectious and customers will want to be part of the fun. Remain professional at work but never take yourself too seriously.”
To celebrate Clive’s win, International Jewellery London (IJL) has offered her a full hospitality package for this year’s Olympia event, including transport to and from the venue, an overnight stay and a complementary afternoon tea or lunch during the show.
IJL event director Sam Willoughby said of supporting Shop Floor Stars: "Jewellery is such a personal purchase and customer service and building relationships with clients is key to a successful sale. Supporting and celebrating the retail stars who achieve excellence in this area is a great initiative by Professional Jeweller and we are delighted to support this and further enhance the winner’s achievement."
Special accolades were presented to five exceptional sales professionals who showed a special aptitude in certain areas. These included;
Best Mentor: Hayley Neale, R.L. Austen
Most Brand Savvy: Danny Bond and Layla Simpson, Peter Jackson the Jewellers
Best Innovator: Tracey Cole, Allum & Sidaway

“I would like to personally thank every single individual who has made this campaign a success; from the very deserving finalists to the retail owners who arrived at the Freemason’s Hall to support them.”
Shop Floor Stars was initiated in May 2014 as a way of recognising customer service staff and managers for the brilliant work they do. Professional Jeweller was inundated with nominations, which were then whittled down to a list of 20 exceptional individuals.
