Orders places and retailers out in force as doors open for 2013 event.
IJL opened its doors for the 57th year yesterday, welcoming retailers, buyers, journalist and visitors from the UK and overseas.
Doors opened at 10am to a crowd of waiting visitors, with an edited layout and fresh show design for 2013. The main Boulevard features brands and companies including Domino, Hot Diamonds, Bjorg, Brown & Newirth, DMJ, CW Sellors, Georgini, IBB London, Nomination, Stubbs & Co., as well as international brands Christopher Designs, Amrapali and Djula.
This year’s catwalk has been moved to the back of the hall, allowing guests to take a seat and enjoy the three-times daily runways featuring jewellery from brands and designers across this year’s show.
The opening day garnered positive feedback from brands and retailers alike, with a number of companies winning key orders on the first day. Retailers in attendance yesterday included Green + Benz, Wakefields, Wave Contemporary Jewellery and Beards.
IJL also hosted several key industry seminars yesterday, including an overview of the current diamond market hosted by Mordy Rapaport and a closer look at emerging jewellery trends from IJL trends partner Adorn Insight.
This year’s Bright Young Gems and KickStarters also revealed their collections in full at stands C51 and C61, offering up an eclectic selection of fresh designers jewellery, from rings inspired by Islamic architecture through to colourful silicon neckpieces and baroque silver and enamel rings and bangles.
The show continues today with key announcements from CW Sellors, which will reveal plans for its new business, tourism and educational building located adjacent to Carsington Reservoir in Derbyshire.
At 5pm IJL will host an exclusive announcement and champagne reception at the show, welcoming VIP guests and jewellers including Shaun Leane, Annoushka and Kiki McDonough, as well as Eric Deardroff, chief executive of Garrard.
