QVC pin raises £100,000 for Poppy Appeal

Retailer sells 20,000 pins, presenting British Legion with cheque.

Shopping channel QVC has handed a six-figure cheque to the Royal British Legion, after a crystal-encrusted poppy pin by Buckley became a sell-out success.

The company raised £100,000 for the Royal British Legion, presenting its learning team officer Helen Hill with a cheque during a show for Buckley jewellery on November 2.

The crystal-set pin is available through QVC and the official Poppy Shop of the Royal British Legion, retailing for £15. QVC sold 20,000 of the pins, donating £5 from each sale to the poppy appeal.

Vanessa Priest, head jewellery buyer at QVC, said: “We are delighted with the success of the beautifully designed Buckley poppy pin. It is an honour for QVC to support such a worthwhile charity – more so than ever in 2011, their 90th anniversary year.”

The brooch appears to be sold out on the QVC site, but it still available via the online Poppy Shop, in both small and large sizes.

The news from QVC comes after a busy weekend for jewellery brand Kleshna, whose poppies were featured on this weekend’s X Factor.

Last year’s poppy appeal raised its highest ever total – £36 million – which it hopes to smash this year with a goal of £40 million, marking the 90th anniversary of the Legion.
