Fairy tale themed collection combines vintage and recycled jewellery.

Jewellery designer Rachel Helen has been snapped up by the newly-opened gift shop at Edinburgh Castle, having been spotted by the store’s buyer.

The collection chosen for the store is part of the brand’s Juniper Tree range, which is inspired by fairy tales and the darker side of nature and features one-off designs made using vintage and recycled jewellery.

The collection is also said to have caught the eye of the British Museum with Helen being asked to create a series of designs to be sold alongside Grayson Perry’s exhibition, The Tomb of the unknown Craftsman, which ran until February this year.

Helen said of the coup: “It’s a complete honour to be asked to create pieces for these prestigious locations, the Juniper Tree collection has a historical feel, each piece is made from unwanted or damaged vintage jewellery which I carefully take apart and re work to create new pieces, so everything in the collection is recycled, reused and one of a kind.”

The collection made for Edinburgh Castle features purple cameos mixed with vintage materials to create bracelets, pendants and brooches.
