Australian diamond mining company Lucapa Diamond Company, has unearthed the largest diamond to ever be discovered in Angola.
A 404.2ct diamond was recently unearthed, making it the 27th largest diamond in the world.
Not only does the stone have an astounding carat weight, but it’s a;sp virtually flawless.
The diamond has been given a top-tier Type IIa rating, 2nd from the highest rating possible for diamonds. Only 1-2% of the world’s diamonds have been given a Type 11a rating making the stone extremely rare.
In addition, the stone has also been confirmed as a D colour.
Lucapa Diamond company has estimated that the 404.2ct diamond could be worth upwards of $20 million. However, they recognise that pricing on diamonds this large doen’t necessarily follow the same guidelines used for smaller diamonds.
The largest Angola diamond (the Angolan Star) was previously 217.4cts.
According to Forbes, Lucapa have plans to see the diamond to fund further exploration and expansion at the Angola diamond mine.
