Six months of development work has been invested in the new look and functionality of Gem Privé, a website that promotes and sells jewellery from small and emerging designer/makers.
The site is the creation of Miranda McCarthy, a fine jewellery designer who launched Gem Privé after years of frustration at an industry that would only stock and sell the biggest, best-known designers.
“The retail world was pretty fixed in its idea of what was saleable, and there wasn’t really a platform that offered full support to new design talent,” McCarthy explains. “I wanted to do something about it.”
To promote the relaunch of the web site, Gem Privé is offering cash prizes in a design competition to create a sapphire engagement ring using computer aided design (CAD).
The challenge is to create to create an eternity band style engagement ring (set on one, two, or three sides). “The Bride-To-Be is active and classical so nothing too ornate or embellished. Use your imagination to take this simple design and add your magic touch to create something striking, classical, and practical to wear for a lifetime,” the competition notes explain.
Closing date for entries is July 6th. The winner designer will bag a cash prize of £200.
