Rioter faces jail for £25k raid on Manc jewellers

A 27-year-old man who ransacked Cathedral Jewellers and Alfred E Mutter during the Manchester raids and stole £25,000 worth of jewellery has been caught by police and is now facing a lengthy jail term.

Jason Aitchison was one of a group of at least 30 who broke into the Manchester jewellers. Police caught up with Aitchison after his face was captured on CCTV.

Aitchison pleaded guilty to burglary and has been remanded in custody until he is sentenced on August 22.

Cathedral Jewellers owner Jeffrey Taylor said that necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings were stolen in the attack. He told Manchester Evening News: “My life savings went into this shop. I wasn’t brought up to steal – it’s not fair on those who have worked every day to make a living.”
