Scottish retailer’s smartphone site to attract 7,500 visitors a month.

Award-winning Scottish retailer ROX has invested £25,000 in the launch of a new m-commerce website which allows customers to browse and purchase the full ROX range on the move, using their smartphone.

ROX is believed to be the first UK jeweller to optimise its website for smartphone users; an investment made on the back of a £50,000 website revamp in autumn last year.

The ROX website currently receives around 75,000 visitors a month, and the new m-commerce website – designed by technology consultants Webage – is expected to attract another 7,500 monthly visits.

Recent research has shown that mobile retail searches soared by 216% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2011 as the surge in online shopping continued.

Managing director and co-owner of ROX, Kyron Keogh, said: “Online sales now account for 15% of our annual turnover and with the rapid increase of smartphones we felt it was essential to upgrade our website to offer our customers a superior browsing experience.

“There is already considerable existing demand to engage with our customers via mobile devices,” he added.
ROX has been commended for its pioneering approach to e-commerce with the company scooping the Small/Medium Online Retailer of the Year award at the Scottish Retail Excellence Awards and Retail Entrepreneur of the Year at the Digital Entrepreneur Awards – both which were held late last year.

Speaking on the award wins, Keogh added: “Online retail plays such a significant role in our business and to not only be recognised for the work we’ve done but to have our efforts praised by those at the cutting edge of digital retail is something we’re really proud of.”

ROX also pushes its social media presence with Facebook and Twitter channels, alongside a blog at where customers can keep up to date with the ROX goings on.
