Jeweller lends voice to tonight’s Secret Knowledge programme on BBC4.
Internationally renowned jeweller Shaun Leane will present a documentary focused on the Cheapside Hoard, airing tonight on BBC Four.
The programme takes a closer look at the jewellery discovered on London’s Cheapside during a demolition last century.
The hoard features about 500 pieces of Elizabethan and Jacobean jewels, which have gone on show all together for the first time since their discovery at the Museum of London in an exhibit that runs until April 27.
Shaun Leane was invited by BBC Four to present a documentary exploring the story of the Cheapside Hoard. The film goes behind the scenes during the run-up to the exhibition in a bid to uncover some of the collection’s secrets including who the jewels belonged to, why they were buried and why were they never retrieved.
This is the first time that Leane has been asked to present for TV. The designer said of the Cheapside Hoard exhibition and project: "Being able to work closely with these striking creations has cemented my true passion for everything I admire about my profession. The hoard is a great example of all that is exquisite – the skill, mystery, romance, and the history that jewellery holds.”
The programme, Secret Knowledge: The Hidden Jewels of the Cheapside Hoard, will air tonight on BBC Four at 8.30pm.
