Susan Wong, founder of Wongs Jewellers in Liverpool, was toasted by colleagues, staff and customers at a special party to celebrate her retirement from the business after 38 years.

Described by her staff as modest, caring and inspirational, Susan Wong has enjoyed almost 38 years at the forefront of Wongs Jewellers. At a surprise retirement party last week, customers, suppliers, friends, family and staff gathered to say a fond farewell to Susan as she takes a well- deserved step back from the business.

Reminiscing about the past 38 years Susan chatted about her favourite pastimes and gave thanks to all of those people who have supported her in making Wongs a continued success.

In 1979 in a small workshop above the famous Beatles shop, Susan became the face of Wongs. With Husband Brian crafting “in the back”, Susan dealt with every customer, supplier, order and maintained the company accounts.

Along with Brian’s skill on the bench, creating a strong front of house team proved pivotal in developing an unrivalled reputation across Liverpool and Merseyside.

This is the very reputation that son and Professional Jeweller Hot 100 Retail Star Peter Wong upholds today. In a fitting tribute, Peter has dedicated his Hot 100 2015 accolade to his mum, saying: “This is a small gift for the lady that has brought such elegance to Wongs and the jewellery industry.”
