Specialist insurance broker T H March has revealed the winner of its first Make Your Mark design competition, presenting Holts Academy student Elizabeth Harvey with a cash prize.

The Holts Academy Level 2 jewellery manufacturing student had only five months bench experience behind her when she entered the competition, which has been designed to help up-and-coming designers raise their profiles in the trade.

T H March chairman Mark Smith commented: “In our capacity as specialist insurance brokers to thousands of jewellers in the UK and appointed broker to many highly respected jewellery trade organisations, it is clear that we are well placed to help new talent get noticed by their potential future customers.

“Launching this competition is one of our ways of investing in the future of the industry we serve and it has been such a success we are planning to make it an annual event.”

According to Smith, Harvey’s necklace design was chosen as the winner because, aside from its visual appeal, the entry fulfilled the brief of designing and manufacturing while telling a story about the processes involved.

Harvey was officially presented with her winner’s certificate and cash prize at International Jewellery London earlier this month. Her winning piece will also be featured across T H March marketing materials, in the press and on the T H March website and social feeds.

Harvey will now use her cash prize to help towards the cost of her first collection which she hopes to display at IJL next year.
