Jewellery brand actively tackles bogus Chinese site.

Thomas Sabo is taking action against the Chinese-based owners of a site selling fake Thomas Sabo jewellery after it was exposed by Professional Jeweller last month.

The charm jewellery brand was targeted by an organisation named on domain name registrar Network Solutions as Gongpengfei in the Chinese city of Shenzhen. The group set up a bogus site at Thomasabosuk.com selling what the brand has confirmed is fake Thomas Sabo jewellery.

Thomas Sabo UK managing director Harald Winzer said: “It is not easy to take legal action against them but we have lawyers on the case.”

Winzer went on to add that the bogus Gongpengfei site is just one of many that the brand has to tackle. He said: “There is unfortunately many of these fake sites on the internet.”

Pandora and Links of London were also caught up in the Gongpengfei scam with similar sites set up at Links-of-londons.uk.com and Pandorauks.uk.com.

Last month Pandora UK chief executive Peter Andersen confirmed that the company was actively working on tackling the issue and had retained the professional services of trademark protection business TM-Eye that has a stated mission to “fight against the manufacture and illegal import, export and sale of counterfeit and pirated goods in Europe”.
