Tiffany snares jewellers selling counterfeit rings

Two retailers given restraining orders for false advertising.

Tiffany & Co. has won a temporary restraining order against a Michigan-based jewellery store it believes has been selling counterfeit Tiffany rings on eBay.

The restraining order stems from a lawsuit Tiffany filed against Diamond Ten and Ace Diamond Jewelry on June 2 for false advertising, trademark infringement, unfair or deceptive trade practices and injunctive relief.

Tiffany claims that the retailers offered 22 rings for sale on eBay between Oct. 1, 2010, and June 2, 2011, and advertised those rings as authentic Tiffany products. The company purchased two of the rings and determined they were fake and marked with counterfeit Tiffany trademarks.

The temporary restraining order will be in effect until the preliminary injunction hearing on June 13.
