The new Perlee collection from Van Cleef & Arpels for everyday wear.
Van Cleef and Arpels launched its new Perlée collection in Green Park last night.
The collection was a departure from the jeweller’s standard high-end style with its youthful and playful designs. Created for everyday wear, the price of pieces reflected this and prices ranged from £340 for a small ring to £22,800 for a white gold pavé diamond bangle.
Van Cleef & Arpels’ Alhambra collection was also displayed at the event. It is this collection’s golden beaded borders that are continued throughout the Perlée designs, the name of which originates from the French perlé, meaning ‘pearled edge.’
Van Cleef & Arpels brand director Geoffrey Medinger said: “The work on the Alhambra collection is what inspired Perlée. The idea was to do something very sophisticated, but just in gold. We wanted to do a new collection more for every day, something unpretentious.”
The brand director claimed the more affordable collection was not created in reaction to the global economic climate, but in response to customer demand as an extension of the classic Alhambra line.
“It is not cynical, not a marketing plot,” Medinger said. “But maybe we need jewellery like we didn’t need before. Maybe we need some lightness, some frivolity.”
Van Cleef and Arpel’s next collection is to be launched in September in Paris. It will consist of high-end, unique pieces and is described by Medinger as ‘unexpected.’
