Detectives hunt for culprits in two separate robberies at jewellers.
A motorbike gang escaped with a haul of watches after an early morning raid on an Ernest Jones store in Southend yesterday morning.
Two men pulled up outside the shop at 9.10am on Sunday. One man walked into the shop armed with a short-handled sledge hammer, smashed through a display cabinet and grabbed a number of watches, the value of which is unknown.
The men, who were both wearing helmets, returned to the bike and sped away.
Southend CID detective constable Dave Wood said: “I am appealing for anyone who saw the robbery take place to get in touch or from anyone who saw the men before or after the incident.
“I would also like to hear from witnesses who may have taken down details of the motorcycle used and the index plate.”
Police in Basildon are still hunting two men who robbed an Ernest Jones shop in the town’s Eastgate Shopping Centre on December 22. The men gained access to a secure glass cabinet and stole to platinum and gold wedding bands worth a five-figure sum.
Basildon PC Mike Hillis said: “The CCTV images are clear enough for anyone that knows the pair to recognise them, and I urge you to do the right thing and call us. I would also ask anyone that is approached to buy such items under suspicious circumstances to call us.”
The first suspect is a white man aged between 41 and 60 years old with brown short hair who was wearing blue denim jeans and a dark long coat at the time. The second is a white man aged between 21 and 40 years old who was wearing a blue woolly hat, blue denim jeans and a dark long coat during the robbery.
