The partnership should offer Gecko wider distribution in Europe – it already has partners in Germany – as it becomes part of WB Group, an organisation that exhibits internationally and boasts an annual turnover in excess of £32 million.

Patrick Fuller, joint chairman of the WB Group, said: “We see the addition of Gecko to the WB Group as being a significant step towards being able to offer jewellery retailers throughout Europe a complete solution to their jewellery needs.

“Gecko, like the WB Group, has built its business by providing great design, innovation and service and we believe there is tremendous synergy between our companies. Bringing them together will undoubtedly provide tremendous new opportunities for both businesses and for their customers.”

In recent years the WB Group has been busy establishing itself as a major European manufacturing and design house in the bespoke, 18ct gold and platinum precious-jewellery arena.

Gecko Jewellery is a new route for the company, with its collection of branded and fashion jewellery, men’s collections and silver and gold gemstone jewellery.

Barry Bennett and Kate Carling the founders of Gecko, along with their fellow owner Mark Stimson, will remain with the business during the hand-over period.

WB Group said it intends for Gecko to continue to trade as a separate entity with its current management and staff.

Andrew Morton, managing director of all the companies within WB Group, will also become managing director of Gecko Jewellery.

The acquisition of Gecko into the WB Group follows the recent news of a partnership between Daisy jewellery and IBB London, as Daisy looks to increase its international presence.
