Organisation hails government scheme to nominate laws to be abolished
The Federation of Small Businesses has said it welcomes the coalition government’s launch of ‘Your Freedom’, a website which invites visitors to nominate the laws they think should be repealed.
According to an FSB survey, a third of small business owners believe regulation was the biggest barrier to growth for their businesses in 2009. The FSB has setup its own portal to the ‘Your Freedom’ site to encourage its members to provide feedback on what regulation they would like to see removed.
The announcement was made on the same day that a new Cabinet committee tasked with the job of reducing the burden of red tape on businesses, chaired by business secretary Vince Cable, held its first meeting.
FSB policy chairman Mike Cherry said: “Giving the public and business owners the chance to shape the regulation and legislation which directly affects them is a welcome move. We urge our members to log on to the website to help reduce the bureaucracy faced by small firms. Small businesses want to grow, but are stifled by red tape and excessive legislation.”
