Dreweatts & Bloomsbury auction nets over £1m in fine jewellery sales.
A 30 carat sapphire and diamond ring by French jeweller Jean Schlumberger was the star lot at this week’s fine jewellery and watch sale at Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions in London; reaching an eye-watering £117,800 before the hammer fell.
In total, the auction netted over £1 million thanks to local and international bidders fighting over iconic jewellery and watches from the 20th century including Bulgari, Graff and Jean Schlumberger.
“Iconic jewels continue to fire the imagination of international buyers, and the strength of the market for the finest pieces remains fiercely contested. It was a huge privilege to be able to privately source the sale from UK and Continental European collections and vendors,” said James Nicholson, international head of jewellery & watches at Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions.
A turquoise and white enamel ‘Serpenti’ watch by Bulgari was another highly desirable piece with 12 telephone bidders competing against the internet and collectors in the room. The iconic watch, a favourite of actress Elizabeth Taylor, sold for £84,320.
