Watchmaker unveils sporty-looking Uniformity timepiece.
Alain Mouawad has unveiled a brand new venture – his own watch brand called Blacksand – at Basel, with a new timepiece called Uniformity.
Coming from an family of watchmakers, Mouawad chose to continue tradition and, as an avid watch collector, decided to shake things up with his own watch company.
The Blacksand Uniformity watch is crafted in titanium with element of pink gold and is also available in solid pink gold for around CHF 31,800. Details include superluminova numbers and a choice of rubber or purple alligator straps, playing on the brand’s purple colour, set to be iconic. The watch features and Technotime Swiss movement, 46mm case and has been in production since August 2010, though Basel is the first time is has been launched to the public.
To date, Mouawad has been approached by several individuals interested in distribution but is currently taking time to get a sense of the market and to see where Blacksand could go. Only 300 watches will be made for 2011, with the intention of making the watch a collector’s item.
Each Blacksand watch will have its own ‘fingerprint’ card, allowing the owner to become part of its exclusive Purple Club, where they can go online to certify their watch, find out news about the brand and get exclusive information. A six year warrenty is also offered to Purple Club members.
Each watch will also be awarded its own Certificate of Swiss Chronometry (COSC), to certify its movement as entirely Swiss made. The watch is also engraved on the case back with ‘Semper Fidelis’ – always faithful – as testament to Mouawad’s passion for traditional Swiss watchmaking, even within a modern styled watch.
