British jewellery designer Alexis Dove has won an esteemed accolade at the Lewes District Business Awards.
Recognising success, innovation and excellence in the business community, the Lewes District Business Awards celebrate organisations of all sizes and in all sectors. Around 300 of the district’s leading business people, sponsors and judges attended the Awards ceremony, which took place at Brighton’s AMEX Stadium on July 19, where Alexis Dove was named the Best Independent Retailer.
Dove relocated her store from the Needlemakers to Lewes High Street in November 2016.
Following her trip to two Fairtrade accredited gold mines in Peru two years ago, she opened this store with the aim of bringing Fairtrade bridal collections to a wider market.
The Best Independent Retailer Award celebrates an independent retailer that offers an individual, innovative and exemplary customer service experience, as well as being a business that is greatly loved and supported by local shoppers.
The Alexis Dove boutique specialises in bespoke commissions often using unusual stones sourced from around the world, including recycled and old mine cut diamonds to create one-off pieces for bridal customers looking for something unique. Dove’s workbench, where customers can see designs coming to life, is the focus of the store, while a separate VIP area allows her to sit down with customers and discuss commissions in a relaxed and private environment.
Speaking after winning the award, the designer and eponymous store owner says: “It’s an incredible honour to be named as the Best Independent Retailer in the Lewes district – It’s really special to receive an award from our town as we have had workshops in Lewes since 2007.
“I’m so proud of the whole team and the work we all do to make the shop a success. We strive to offer shoppers fantastic service in a relaxed environment, and to have that recognised by the judges is a real privilege.”
