Retailer gives £25 gift voucher to top customers; repairs boost sales.

Retailer Andrew Berry has reported a 20% uplift in festive takings following a £25 gift voucher campaign.

The Ystrad Mynach-based store posted the top 5% of its highest-spending customers a £25 gift voucher, complete with hand-written envelope. According to the store’s founder Andrew Berry, "the majority [of customers] have spent between £250 to £600" using the vouchers.

As a result of this, Berry says the shop’s takings over the Christmas period are 20% up on last year’s figures.

Business has also been bolstered by the company continuing to take in repairs and commissions. "Every other shop around us is amazed that we are still taking in repairs [as they] are ‘too busy’ selling to take in repairs so they send them to us," Berry said.

"This new customer has to come to us twice; once to bring in the repair and again to collect before Christmas. They then have the opportunity to see our wonderful staff and stock and usually end up spending more on presents. They certainly remember us first the next time they need anything repairing."

Berry added that most resizing jobs are costing between £30 and £60 a time.
