Average UK jewellery sales value up in February


Romance of Valentine’s pushes spend up at jewellers, says Hitachi.

Average sales values at jewellery stores in the UK have increased 9% year on year in February.

New data from Hitachi Capital Consumer Finance suggest that the average transaction value at UK jewellers this month is £1,628 as Valentine’s Day proposals increase ring sales.

The company, which tracks sales data, said that this 9% rise in February is a particularly sparkling result as it estimates that average transaction values at UK jewellers were down 11% year on year in 2012, dropping from £1,575.12 in 2011 to £1,402.34.

Hitachi Capital Consumer Finance provides finance solutions for more than 90% of the jewellery point of sale market, for retailers including Signet Group and Goldsmiths.
