BJA launches Earrings of the Catwalk contest

Winning designs to appear on stage at J&WB in February 2015.

The British Jewellers’ Association (BJA) has launched a new ‘Earrings for the Catwalk’ competition for 2015, searching for the most exotic, statement earrings to be showcased on the catwalk at Jewellery & Watch Birmingham in February.

The BJA has put out an open call for jewellers and jewellery companies across the UK for “strong, fresh and high-quality designs that are both on trend and commercially viable”.

Entrants do not need to be exhibiting at Jewellery & Watch Birmingham or a member of the BJA to submit their nomination – ensuring the widest range of brands and designers can take part.

This year’s competition will be split across two distinct categories: precious metal earrings and fashion earrings in base metals and mixed materials.

According to an official press release: “The first [category] will look for precious metals adorned with patterns, textures, gemstones, pearls and other materials; the second will be open to all materials, including plastics, resins, woods and natural fibres.”

Pieces are also expected to have a “strong catwalk appeal, with the winning designs being showcased on the Jewellery & Watch Birmingham catwalk.”

Entries will close on Wednesday December 3, 2014. Next, a panel of judges will then select a winner for each category based on the most innovative, cutting-edge and quality designs. An official prize-giving will also take place on the catwalk on Monday February 2.

BJA marketing manager Lindsey Straughton, commented: “This year’s theme calls for glamorous, long earrings that make a real statement as they go down the catwalk. Anyone can enter the PR if fantastic and with the categories covering both precious and fashion styles we are expecting a diverse range of entries.”
