Carat* London is a brand built on sustainability and ethical practices, and its founder feels it has truly come of age in this respect in recent years.

Founded almost 20 years ago, in 2002, when lab-grown diamonds were little more than a pipe dream, it would perhaps be accurate to say that Carat* London was before its time.

Fortunately it stuck around long enough to see the lab-grown boom that has swept the world of late, and is now firing on all cylinders with sister brand Gentle Diamonds just as successful.


We asked head of creative and marketing, Heidi Thompson, to reflect on the past two decades and the brand’s ceaseless mission for sustainable diamonds.

He said: “From the beginning, the Gentle Diamonds project mandate is simply to ‘be gentle’.

“Therefore, in the next 20 years, we want the brand to represent something other than monetary value.

“Instead, we hope these new diamonds can be an expression of love of self, love of your other half, and love of the world around you, using 100% sustainable diamonds grown using energy directly from the sun. That’s the dream!”
