Jeweller celebrated for fending off an armed robber at store in Kent

Jewellery designer Charmian Beaton was recognised for her bravery at last night’s Area Commander’s Awards after foiling an armed robbery at her self-titled shop in Maidstone, Kent.

The awards, organised by the police force, singled out Beaton for her brave actions during the attempted robbery. Beaton tackled the robber, hitting him over the head with a fire extinguisher, when he tried to snatch pieces of jewellery from display cabinets.

Beaton said: “I’m totally overwhelmed to be invited to the police awards. I just saw it as I was protecting my shop, but I am really honoured.”

Three shop assistants from the store were also recognised for their efforts in detaining the man until police arrived on the scene.
