Chopard, Chanel, Rolex, Patek Philippe and Tudor leave Baselworld

Rolex, Patek Philippe, Tudor, Chopard and Chanel will not return to Baselworld for the 2021 edition.

The brands have informed the show’s management that it had failed to consult its major exhibitors about key decisions regarding the postponement of this year’s event.

“This departure follows a number of unilateral decisions made without consultation by Baselworld management, including the postponement of the watch show until January 2021, as well as its inability to meet the brands’ needs and expectations,” a jointly signed statement from the exiting brands says.

This follows news that exhibitors were unhappy that Baselworld was not offering refund options as the show had been “postponed” rather than cancelled.

Parent company MCH Group aimed to hold brands to the terms of their contracts; essentially saying they would lose their deposits in full if they did not rebook into the 2021 show, and would even be charged a 15% administration fee on the full cost of their bookings if they did move to January next year.

As the five major brands move away from Baselworld, they have joined forces to launch a new watch fair in Geneva.

The new show will be held early April 2021 at Palexpo, a the dame time as Watches and Wonders.
