Thief ordered to pay jeweller for stolen cufflink and court costs.
Contemporary jeweller CJ Vinten has been paid £130 in compensation and £105 in court costs after a one-armed robber stole a single cufflink from the store in Leigh-on-Sea.
Meroslva Balog entered the shop on January 29 under the guise of searching for a present for his mother. The man then grabbed a single boxing glove-shaped gold cufflink, which was valued at £130, after knocking over a cufflink display.
Balog was caught after police issued CCTV footage of him. He was ordered by a judge at Southend Magistrates’ Court to pay CJ Vinten for the cufflink and court costs. He was also sentenced to 120 hours of unpaid work and given a 12-month community sentence.
During his appearance at Southend Magistrates’ Court Balog also admitted stealing a watch worth £30 from department store Debenhams.
As well as compensating CJ Vinten, Balog was given a 12-month community sentence and ordered to do 120 hours of unpaid work.
