Contemporary designers show at CMJ for first time

New initiative at buying meeting run in collaboration with the BJA.

Contemporary jewellery designers exhibited at the latest Company of Master Jewellers buying meeting for the first time as part of a new initiative in collaboration with the British Jewellers’ Association (BJA).

Designers exhibiting at the two-day meeting, which was attended by more than 500 people, included Sarah Herriot, William Cheshire, Francesca Sibylla Augusta FSA, Tomasz Donocik, Oria Ethical Jewellery, David Webdale, Rowan Davis and Eastern Mystic Jewellery.

BJA manager of PR, marketing and exports Lyndsey Straughton said: “Several designers were able to secure orders with retailers and all of them made some very good contacts which they are now following up.
“It was a great experience for them and also showed the buyers that we have some very good contemporary designer-makers in the UK, who can be viewed as highly professional suppliers for independent retailers, offering jewellery with a real point of difference.”
