Craft Central merges dance with jewellery

Jeweller, ceramicist and fashion designer join forces

Ceramicist Nicole Mueller, fledgling jeweller Kathryn Marchbank and fashion designer Andrea Carr will meet this September (9 – 12) in an eclectic mix of cutting edge craft inspired by dance.

Mueller’s acid toned ceramic tablewares will be creating their own choreographed pattern trail as they are moved across the table. On the jewellery side, Marchbank will be presenting her range which draws from ballet to hip hop culminating in a collection of wooden animal forms to be worn or handled. “The figure in dance and light are always my inspiration, the shapes of break dancers in the New York Subway and those dashing across the stage in Moses Pendleton’s ‘Momix’ dance production. I wanted to capture the spotlights and shadows of a club for the breakers.”

Fashion designer Andrea Carr’s collaboration with Kim Fleary has led to an eco fashion label called 21 things I love. Pushing the clothing designs beyond the limits of everyday wearable items, Carr has worked with a choreographer and dancers to create Stretch where clothing forms the props to an innovative performance.
